Shadowban is the #1 topic in every Bumble discussion. Operators produce verified accounts, watch the first hour, and see zero matches. Then they ask, "is this SB or is something else wrong?", and the answer matters, because each ban type requires a different fix.
This guide separates shadowban from its neighbors (faceban, outright ban, forced verification), gives you a diagnostic you can run in 10 minutes, walks the real causes ranked by frequency, and tells you honestly when recovery is possible and when to just burn the account.
What "shadowban" on Bumble actually means
Bumble doesn't publicly confirm shadowban exists. Operationally, it's a state where your account:
- Still logs in normally.
- Still shows you a swipe feed.
- Lets you like/swipe normally.
- But your profile is not shown to other users' swipe feeds, or is shown only to a small fraction of them.
Result: likes and matches drop to near-zero. You appear active to yourself but invisible to everyone else.
This is distinct from:
- Outright ban ("Account blocked" popup), app refuses login entirely.
- Faceban, your face geometry is on a per-face block list; every new account with your face gets shadowbanned regardless of other factors (Guide 04).
- Forced verification, account told to re-verify; not shadowbanned unless you fail.
- Moderated status, mid-state where account shows reduced visibility but not full invisibility.
Getting these confused wastes time. A shadowban recovery attempt on a faceban'd account will always fail. A faceban "fix" on a plain shadowbanned account won't help either.
1. Is my account actually shadowbanned?, the 10-minute diagnostic
Run these in order:
Test 1: Like rate in the first hour
A healthy new Bumble account gets 5-30 likes in the first hour on average (female profile, US tier-1 city, clean photos). If you're getting 0-1 after 20-30 minutes, that's a strong shadowban signal.
The edge case: slow-start accounts. Very occasionally a real account takes 2-3 hours to get its first like. So wait ~1 hour before concluding.
Test 2: Beeline check (if you have Premium)
Beeline shows people who already liked you. Healthy accounts accumulate a small but steady Beeline over the first 24 hours. Shadowbanned accounts have Beeline that doesn't grow at all after the initial sample.
Test 3: Secondary account visibility test ("simp test")
From a completely separate Bumble account (ideally your personal or a dedicated "checker" account), swipe in the same city. Can you find the account under test? If after 30+ minutes of swiping you never see it surface, your test account is likely invisible to the feed, shadowbanned.
This test is high-effort and isn't perfect (Bumble's algorithm is partly randomized) but it's the most reliable single indicator.
Test 4: Message visibility
Some shadowbans let you send messages but the recipient never sees them. If you have a match, send a message, then check from your checker account whether it appears. If "message sent" shows your side but the match never gets notified, shadowban extension that blocks outbound messaging.
Test 5: Server endpoint check
Operators in the corpus note that Bumble sometimes routes shadowbanned accounts to specific server regions, some accounts end up on fr1.bumble.com instead of us1.bumble.com. You can see this in the web network traffic panel. A US-set account talking to fr1 is a sign it's been routed down a lower-trust pipe.
Test 6: The "still getting the occasional like" case
"am i SB on Bumble, Badoo & Tinder even though u still getting likes?"
Possible. Bumble has a gradient of visibility reduction, not a binary. Your account might be partially shadowbanned, shown to 10% of users instead of 100%. You'll get a trickle of likes. That's still shadowban; just a lighter one. Treat as shadowban.
Verdict rule: If Tests 1 + 2 + 3 all point to invisibility, you're shadowbanned. Move on to diagnosis.
2. When shadowban hits, four distinct moments
Understanding when shadowban triggered is half the diagnosis.
Moment A: Instant shadowban at account creation (before any activity)
Account created, not yet verified, not yet swiping, already shadowbanned. Causes:
- Proxy IP on an auto-flagged range.
- SMS number used on a previous banned account.
- FB account age/shape flagged.
- Device fingerprint matches a known banned device.
Moment B: Shadowban right after verification passes
Account creates, verifies, then instantly goes invisible. This is the most common pattern by far.
"guys after verification my bumble got instant shadowban is it photos background?"
Causes:
- Verification video fingerprint flagged (face geometry already in faceban pool).
- Photos flagged during the post-verify scan (perceptual hash match with banned account).
- Proxy trust dropped mid-session.
- FB metadata revealed during verification step.
Moment C: Shadowban after some swiping
Account created + verified + swiping for hours/days, then suddenly match rate crashes.
Causes:
- Behavioral pattern flagged (too-fast swipe, 100% right-swipe, session too long).
- Adding bio with IG/Snap handle.
- Report from another user.
- Bumble update that retroactively re-evaluates your trust score.
Moment D: Shadowban after putting IG/Snap in bio
Most of the corpus agrees this is its own category. Adding a social handle (even obfuscated) to bio triggers shadowban in a large fraction of accounts.
"i had snap in bio but now bumble removed my bio. Is my snap now flagged or can i keep using it?"
Full coverage of the bio issue: Guide F, Bumble Bio Strategy and Guide 15, Funnel Construction.
3. Root causes ranked by frequency
These are the causes operators most often identify when they dig into shadowban cases. Ranked by how often each comes up in the corpus:
3.1 Bad proxy / low trust score (most common)
"Who make bumble could dm me? I face some SB i think for proxies problem"
"When I use 4g bumble works but with proxy I get shadow banned all the time why?"
Bumble reads your IP's fraud score, known-VPN classification, ISP type, and recent activity history. Bad proxies hit shadowban at rates of 80-95%.
Good proxies for Bumble: mobile rotating (4G/5G), clean ISP residentials with low fraud scores, fresh mobile dedicated.
Bad proxies: datacenter IPs (most), residential proxies from saturated providers, shared proxies with many concurrent users, any proxy with IPQualityScore >30.
Full breakdown: Guide 07, Proxies for Bumble.
3.2 Photos already in Bumble's detected-reuse pool
Using the same model photos across many accounts builds a perceptual-hash trail. Bumble spots reuse and shadowbans new accounts automatically.
"someone found a way to reuse same pics on bumble/tinder ? Because they patched spoofing and AI pics are detected = instant shadowbann (no likes) if we do that"
The operator above flags a real development: simple EXIF strip + minor pixel edits (which used to be enough) now frequently fail. You need heavier pixel-level alteration (Cupid Cleaner-type tools) plus original shoots variety to survive. Full coverage: Guide 11, Photo Strategy.
3.3 FB account red flags
If you're using Facebook signup, a weak FB foundation cascades:
- FB under 3 months old → higher shadowban rate
- FB with no friends, no photos, no posts → flagged as ghost
- FB suspended or restricted → Bumble cross-reference → shadowban
- FB name/birthdate doesn't match your Bumble profile → flagged
Full coverage: Guide 05, Facebook Accounts for Bumble.
3.4 Faceban (per-face lockout)
Separate from shadowban, but often presents as shadowban. Every new account with your model's face gets instantly shadowbanned, that's the signature. Full coverage: Guide 04, Bumble Faceban.
3.5 Jailbreak detection slipping through
If your iOS tweak stack (Shadow, Roothide, Choicy) has a gap, Bumble can detect the JB state and shadowban immediately. Signs: accounts on the same phone are fine until you install a new tweak, then all new ones shadowban.
Fix: review the JB hiding stack. Re-verify with jailbreak-detection test apps before creating more accounts.
3.6 Emulator detection
If you're creating on LDPlayer, BlueStacks, or Android Studio emulator, detection is common:
"Yo guys is it true that bumble can detect im on an emulator and sb me instantly?"
Answer: yes, partially. Emulator signatures (build properties, sensors absent, performance patterns) trigger lower trust scores. Without deep device-property spoofing, shadowban rates are 70-90%.
3.7 IP density (too many accounts on one IP)
On a static ISP proxy, 1-3 accounts is fine. 5+ starts raising signals. 10+ is shadowban-inducing for the whole cohort.
On a mobile rotating proxy, density is higher but not unlimited, 5-15 accounts per sticky session is typical.
3.8 Device fingerprint collision
Two accounts sharing a real device fingerprint (same iPhone, same MAC, same IMEI, same canvas) get linked and jointly shadowbanned.
This is why Crane-based multi-account on iOS works better than raw multi-account, Crane sandboxes enough device context that the per-account fingerprint is distinct.
3.9 Bio with flagged content
Specifically: insta, IG, snap, social-handle-looking usernames, external platform references. Bumble's bio moderation often triggers immediate shadowban.
3.10 Behavioral pattern flags
- Swiping >120/hour
- 100% right-swipes
- Session >45 minutes continuous
- Re-opening bumble within seconds of closing (bot signature)
- Sending identical first messages to multiple matches
3.11 MAC address as detection vector (contested)
"Hi guys, can a Bumble account go into shadowban because of the MAC address of the device?"
Answer from the community + my knowledge: partially. MAC address itself isn't primary, Bumble doesn't have native MAC access on modern iOS/Android. But device-level fingerprints that correlate with MAC-level identity (Bluetooth ID, carrier signature, board serial) do contribute. If you reset a device to reuse it, factory reset alone may not fully scrub the fingerprint Bumble built.
3.12 Post-update ban waves
Bumble periodically runs retrospective sweeps, one update comes out, thousands of active accounts get hit in 24 hours.
"Did anyone get hit with a ban wave on bumble?" "I lost 15 verified accounts after the recent update."
Nothing you can do during a ban wave except wait it out and audit your method for what the new detection is targeting.
4. "Instant SB after verification", the dominant failure mode
The single most-asked question in the corpus. Dedicated diagnosis:
If ALL your accounts instant-SB after verification, it's either your infrastructure (proxy, device, method) or your face (faceban).
- Quick test: create on a different model's photos. If that account survives, you had faceban. If it also SB's, you had an infrastructure issue.
If 50-70% of your accounts instant-SB after verification, usually photos + proxy combination.
- Fix photo reuse first (unique per account, pixel-spoofed, originals).
- If problem persists, upgrade proxies.
If 10-30% of your accounts instant-SB after verification, this is roughly normal.
- Accept it as creation overhead.
- Focus on building inventory volume, not zero-rate survival.
5. Prevention checklist
Every lever you control, in order of leverage:
Highest leverage (do these first):
- Mobile rotating proxy, low fraud score, matched region. Single biggest factor.
- Fresh photos per account. Not just metadata-cleaned, actually unique originals with per-account variance.
- Quality FB account (if using FB signup). Aged 2020 or earlier. Some friends. Some history.
- Working JB iOS stack with up-to-date JB-hiding tweaks. Or Android AppCloner with current patch.
Medium leverage: 5. Don't touch bio for 48 hours. Especially don't add IG/Snap handles on day 1. 6. Swipe at human pace, 30-80/hour, varied timing, not 100% right. 7. Session length <30 minutes, break, return later. 8. 1-3 accounts per static IP max, 5-10 per mobile IP max.
Lower leverage (but still matters): 9. 4 photos minimum, 5-6 for authenticity. Mix full-body with face. 10. Profile completeness, bio gets added day 2-3, interests/prompts filled. 11. Don't enable Boost/Premium on day 1, looks suspicious. 12. Match conversations happen naturally, don't auto-reply within 2 seconds.
6. Post-SB recovery, honest answer
Can you recover a shadowbanned Bumble account?
Almost always: no.
The community is remarkably consistent on this. "Anyone able to remove shadow ban on bumble?" in the corpus returns variations of "no, it's dead."
What doesn't work:
- Changing photos on the SB account.
- Changing bio.
- Changing location.
- Adding Premium/Boost.
- Appealing to Bumble support (shadowbans are not something support confirms exists, let alone reverses).
- "Unshadowban services", these are scams. Nobody has a technique.
What sometimes works (single-digit success rates):
- Deleting the app, waiting 48-72 hours, reinstalling and logging back in. Occasionally the account comes back to life.
- Changing to a completely fresh proxy + new IP geography. If the SB was proxy-trust-driven, new proxy might help marginally.
The community rule: once shadowbanned, burn the account, learn what caused it, and make the next one better.
7. Ban waves, how to minimize exposure
Bumble runs mass-sweep detection updates a few times per year. Operators report these as "lost 15-30 accounts in 24 hours" events.
You can't prevent a ban wave. You can reduce the blast radius:
- Don't keep all accounts on one method. Mix JB iOS + AppCloner + antidetect + bought accounts.
- Don't keep all accounts on the same proxy provider. Use 2-3 providers in rotation.
- Don't use the same photo library across 100+ accounts. Refresh model photo shoots every 2-3 weeks.
- Keep a warm inventory buffer. 20-40 accounts "aged but not running" that you can deploy when a wave kills your live cohort.
Operators who run this way see ban waves as 20-30% losses. Operators who don't see 80-100% losses and have to rebuild from scratch.
8. The "suicide method", deliberate short-lifespan strategy
Instead of fighting shadowban, some operators lean into it: create 20+ accounts per day, swipe aggressively from minute one, accept a 24-48 hour lifespan, push adds out in that window, retire, repeat.
"Is it better to run 20 bumble accounts daily with suicide method or make them last as long as possible?"
The tradeoff:
- Suicide method: higher SMS/FB/proxy cost per add, but less setup complexity. Good for operators with a reliable account-creation pipeline and wanting maximum daily adds.
- Long-life method: lower per-account cost, but requires slower ramp, patience, warmup discipline. Good for operators optimizing for quality.
Neither is universally correct. Operators running $50k+/mo on Bumble tend to be long-life (amortizing FB + SMS costs over longer account lives). Operators just starting out often go suicide because it's easier to execute.
Full economics: Guide 18, Bumble Metrics & Unit Economics.
9. Special case, 4G-direct vs proxy
"When I use 4g bumble works but with proxy I get shadow banned all the time why?"
This comes up often. The answer: your 4G tethering is a real mobile IP from a carrier, with real IP history. Your "mobile proxy" is a rented IP that may be shared with many other buyers, and likely has a fraud score / pool history that your direct 4G doesn't.
Fix: buy better proxies (dedicated mobile, not shared; with history disclosure from provider). Or run direct from a real phone on 4G/5G with no proxy, viable for small scale, not for 20+ accounts.
10. VoIP numbers specifically
"Is anyone else having problems with using VoIP phone numbers on Bumble? Accounts are getting shadowbanned with them for me"
Yes. VoIP numbers (Google Voice, TextNow, many SMS-pool services using VoIP backends) are heavily flagged by Bumble. Use real carrier numbers (physical SIM, eSIM, or dedicated SMS services that rent real-carrier numbers, not VoIP).
11. The "no matches in 20 minutes" panic
"no matches in 20 min = shadowban on bumble?"
Not reliably. First 20 minutes for a brand-new account is noise. Wait 60-90 minutes before concluding.
What does work as an early signal:
- Zero likes at 90 minutes → SB very likely.
- Zero Beeline at 4 hours → SB very likely.
- Profile views 0 at 2 hours (if visible in your version) → SB likely.
12. What to do when you're hitting SB every time
Step-by-step audit:
- Is this all your accounts or just today's? If just today's, you might be in a ban wave, wait 48 hours.
- Same method as yesterday? If yes, a tool got patched overnight. Check community for new workarounds.
- Same proxy provider? Test with a fresh mobile proxy from a different vendor.
- Same model face? Test with different model (if you have one). If SB persists across faces, infrastructure. If only one face SBs, faceban.
- Same SMS provider? Test with a different vendor.
- Same FB? Test without FB (SMS signup). If SMS works, FB inventory is bad.
- Same device fingerprint? Factory reset, try fresh. Or swap devices.
Don't change everything at once, change one variable at a time so you know which fix mattered.
Frequently asked questions
Can I unban/unshadowban my Bumble account?
Shadowban recovery rates are effectively zero. The community consensus is clear, burn the account, fix the cause, and don't waste time trying. "Unshadowban services" sold in Telegram groups are scams.
Is deleting the app and reinstalling enough to fix shadowban?
In most cases no. Occasionally (single-digit percent) an account comes back after 48-72 hours offline. Not a reliable fix.
My account got shadowbanned but I'm still getting a few likes, what's that?
Partial shadowban, Bumble reduces your visibility without eliminating it. You're shown to 5-20% of users who would otherwise see you. Still shadowbanned; the match rate is a trickle, not zero.
How do I test for shadowban without manually logging into 50 accounts?
Some operators write scripts that check match count, unread count, and like velocity via the API. Others use the "simp test" (second account swiping in the same geography). At scale, track match velocity over time, if it crashes from normal to zero, that's the signal.
Is shadowban permanent?
Effectively yes for the shadowbanned account. The face/device/proxy associated with it may also carry downstream flags (faceban risk, device-level flag, proxy trust drop), but the specific account doesn't recover.
Does Bumble's MAC address detection actually exist?
Bumble can't read your device MAC directly on modern iOS/Android due to OS restrictions. But device fingerprinting builds a signature from things correlated with MAC (device IDs, carrier signature, board serials, canvas), so resetting only MAC doesn't scrub the full fingerprint.
Can putting IG/Snap in bio shadowban my account?
Very often yes. Bio moderation is aggressive; direct handles like "insta: @handle" or "snap: username" are the most-flagged. Emoji obfuscation and delayed bio addition help marginally. Full coverage: Guide F, Bio Strategy.
How many accounts can I run on one proxy before shadowban?
Static ISP: 1-3 max. Mobile rotating: 5-15 per sticky session. Datacenter: don't. Guide 07 for specifics.
I got shadowbanned after putting Snap in bio, is my Snap account now flagged too?
Probably yes, at least weakly. Bumble likely shared the signal with its internal tracking. Your Snap itself is fine (Bumble doesn't reach into Snap), but using the same Snap across many Bumble accounts increases the flag velocity on future Bumble accounts that funnel to it. Rotate funnel destinations.
Can a banned Facebook cascade into Bumble shadowbans?
Yes. If the FB you used to sign up gets suspended by Facebook, Bumble's cross-ref flags the linked Bumble account. Sometimes immediate, sometimes on next login.
